The highly-awaited Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been widespread.
Season 1 presents a large cast of characters residing in the afterlife, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes heated competitions and emotional bonds that drive audience devotion.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service as the main goal," the showrunner stated recently. "But I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also am eager for these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator says her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean viewers have to be patient for some of the biggest payoffs — but they may be surprised at how quickly season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "We get some firsts. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a few fans create a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that makes me happy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on Oct. 29.
